Bones on 3/22/2009 11:35:16 PM
how much does the Keaton car cost these days?
Nick Donhauser on 2/25/2009 11:32:02 AM
This batmobile is THE batmobile. Take no substitutes.
Michael Keaton Fan Man on 1/29/2009 11:01:32 AM
This batmobile was by far the best. It had a genuine and classic car that defined the idea for the car in the late 80s and throughout the 90s. Classic Batman!
Stefan on 1/1/2009 10:17:05 PM
There will never be another ride for the caped crusader as cool as this one,
The rest are so crappy. They obviously tried way to hard to out do the 89'
and it can never be done. Keaton was by far the best batman.Maybe cause
he was the first in a major motion picture,(aside from Adam West) but he defanately gets my vote. C. Bale 2nd no doubt.

I like this one to any way keep makin more of em please send a comment .

In which museum is the actual replica of the 1989 Batmoblie held? I think they have a fully functional drivable model in the Smithsonian Museum.
Bronx Bully on 7/1/2008 8:15:07 PM
We are starting a youth outreach program. We will be working with Young people that have been on the streets and in trouble. We are going to teach them to restore cars but we want to also build cars that will excite and challange them so they will be motivated to change their lives. The Keaton Batmobile was one of the first cars we would like to build, but a project like that will be the first kind for all of us. Is there any advice or information you can give us that will help us with this project? We have a 1974 corvette we will be using for this project. Any information, web site links, or what ever you think will help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Arlana and Kenneth
ARLANA on 6/17/2008 12:09:57 AM
Top speed won't be very high just cause its so damn loaded full of heavy gear
viper blade on 6/2/2008 11:07:38 AM
What is the top speed of the 1989 batmobile
Bj on 6/1/2008 4:21:43 PM
How about a rear view camera. It may make it legal and it would fit the car. I seem to remember in one of the movies batman had one
viper blade on 5/11/2008 11:35:10 AM
I would also of course put a lift and lower system in there are ways of making this thing total street legal you need some thing along the lines of a rear view mirror I would think a back up rear view monitor would be ok you would need head light's they are easily hidden from plain sight as well as the side view mirror's I like what one guy did they flip out of the gun turats
I am pretty sure all of this comply's with Pa state law's depending on what the title actually says if the car is titled as a street vechal older than 25 year's than there shouldn't be any worry Kit car's from scratch with a New title check
with Commissner Gordon first Bat fans
JOSH on 4/15/2008 5:39:45 PM
If I ever had the cash for this thing which it's about 15,000 just to say hello
I would do something with the tail I've seen on trick my truck they put the cone for the jet and inside they put red LEDS for like the brake and turn singnals that would be cool and street legal
Josh on 4/15/2008 5:27:31 PM
Is it possible to find a jet engine that would fit into it?
Harris Naseem on 3/30/2008 2:00:06 PM
"Folks, this is indeed a neat car. But if you're gonna build one or buy one, you better check out your local codes. Because you may find out that it is not street legal. Assuming you do want to drive this masterpiece on the street,

I agree with this guy. Having a complete, detailed remake of the batmobile seems like a cool idea on paper, but there's so many things people don't consider, blinded by the sheer fun of having one. The first thing that comes to MY mind, is check out how far it is off the ground, a whole half inch? Hey oh. Have fun hitting a speed bump/rock/uneven patch of road with that. And having to worry about it's legality of even being on the road, bla bla bla. Not to mention, it's unenjoyable/hard to drive...the funniest comment I've heard was someone refer to it as "like having to drive a bus from the backseat."

If you're actually interested in this, and willing to sink that much cash, you're probably better off modding a Corvette or something along those lines. It's not going to look IDENTICAL to the movie like this one, but the average person on the street who sees it isn't going to have a picture of the 1989 batmobile in their pocket and is going to compare it inch for inch. A batmobile is a batmobile, end of story.

I know someone who has been working on a Firebird doing this same thing, and it's looking pretty bad ass. And I've been interested in doing a Corvette modification for the longest time. To me, having a safe, street legal, well-running car with some mods to look like the batmobile is more important than having a total replica. Have some fun with it and make it your own, give it some of your own personality. There's already so many takes on the batmobile as it is, why not?
robby on 3/18/2008 1:25:36 AM
Good afternoon folks, I am the owner of the Mark Towle 89 Batmobile shown on this site. While the photos look really cool, the actual car is a mess. I am not going to trash MT or Kory, but it would be very easy. I did not get what I contracted and paid for, and the work was shoddy as best. If you want a 1989 replica Batmobile do yourself a favor, look at all other builders before dealing with Kory or MT. I am now in the process of disassembling his build so I can rebuild it right. What a nightmare!!!!!
B.Wayne on 2/15/2008 3:24:19 PM
I don't mind this car, but it's just 'pretty'. The tumbler and the batpod are real machines that have been built from scratch. They have a doco about the building of the tumbler on the BB DVD. All the troubles they had and how hard they worked to make it seem 'real'. That said the Keaton car is far superior to the camp 1960's car and the ones that followed it. i.e. forever and B&R, which were just gay.
cjblair on 2/13/2008 9:39:06 PM
The Keatonmobile was cutting edge for the time and looks super sleek, but I still prefer the one in the New Batman TAS shows. I feel this one sits far too low to the ground, and the "batmissile" gimmick in Batman Returns (ugh) was utterly retarded.
Jedd on 1/22/2008 12:40:01 AM
It seems a tho I found people that understand. The keaton rocks my socks, (and other things). Jeff, if you ever happen upon that miracle and obtain such a fine vehicle, look me up. wink*
Jez on 1/18/2008 11:12:52 PM
The tumbler has a point, but for style? this batmobile is still THE batmobile, the long nose will always make it look aggressive. I was hoping they would redesign the one for TDK to be a mix between the tumbler and this one, or better yet a redesign of this one, trying to make it more real-looking and less flashy, SORT of like the one in TAS, that way we still had a long, sleek, low bat-ride, but it was real-looking, all those hopes have gone down the drain now with TDK announincg it will still have The Tumbler.
Bruce_Kenobi on 1/16/2008 3:23:07 PM
This is nothing more than a fiberglass shell. I was working as a security officer in '91 when World of Wheels car show came to town with the Batmobile. I was lucky enough to get a post at Bartle Hall where the show was being held. I worked the midnight shift. This meant that there was nobody around. I sat in the car and found it to be uncomfortable. Also, there was nothing to the interior except a few gauges and switches on an aluminum panel. Get a grip, guys, it's just a pretty prop with no substance.

Seems like nobody wants to get techinical or set out a plan. Here's the deal. It has to handle, right? C4 corvette suspension can be grafted to almost anything. Take a welding class. It would be ideal if you could register it and drive it. Start with a real car. While the wheelbase is too short, a C3 (1968-1982) Corvette frame designed to accept C4 suspension can be had for about $5k. Lengthen it. Use the body STRUCTURE of a convertible from the firewall back, so you get to keep the VIN. Use a 1975 or previous donor car (1973-75 in rough shape can be had for $5-6K). Strip all the body panels. Fabricate an interior. Motorvation? 94-96 GM LT1, stoke it to 383 cid and run a STS turbo (check out Squires turbo systems). At appx. 15psi, the arrangement should generate 700 rear wheel horsepower. Put a TH400 with a gear vendors overdrive behind it. BTW, were only up to about $30k if you've been doing this yourself. Now, the big question. THE BODY! I've checked with some of the custom shops in my area. I've been quoted $30-40k to build the body from the second animated series. About the same if you pick a favorite (Tumbler excluded on this build). I'm in process on the chassis buildup and hate fiberglass. If anyone can assist or give direction, it would be much appreciated.

I built the 1/24 AMT kit without the gold wheels. It looks so much better with those wheels having a steel look to it, it doesn't make the car look flashy.
Mr. Anonymous on 3/23/2006 11:44:50 AM
I just took delivery of the Hotwheels 1/18 scale 1989 movie version (flat or satin black) of the Keaton batmobile. I don't care for the gloss black finish version. I also have the 1/24 scale plastic model (AMT or Revell not sure now) but the paint scheme called for the car and the rims to be painted flat black and to leave the bat symbol hub chrome. The Hotwheels model has 'blackwashed' chrome rims. I have 'The Official Batmam Movie Book' which shows the rims to be a flat or satin black. Which is the correct scheme?

If you were to design the ultimate custom car, stylish & vicious, it would probably look like the 89Batmobile. I would like to build a full metal skin with fibreglass for the fiddly bits (wings, jet). Too busy at the moment designing AI software. Why spend NZ$70K on a Chrysler 300C when you could build the Batcar for less. Thanx to this site for the plans & inspiration to believe you can build one. I think the Tumbler is cool but 89Batmobile has more style.

Ok you want to know some facts here ya go the big guys that worked on the first two films are making a butt load of money they went into bussness for them selfs and are turning out copys of our fav car for reasons of rights held by the WB have to be called by the owner of said copy a Gotham Cruiser thats you and what you have to call it how ever what other point and say to you well that is diffrent and the fun you don't have to call it a Gotham Crusier just don't call it a batmobile hell call it the Mark 5 lol and the cost off these gems it will set you back the same if you were buying a new gas saver with options whats that in real numbers well sit down 15,000 but for that you get a whole running car THE CAR they come with a 350" motor I'm sure it's auto if you really want a stick and clutch well ok then but I don't remember hearing gears grinding or it doing funny little driffing when it was in park the E brake was for Bat emegecy's only any way on top of your cost of having this master peace build if you live on the East Coast like me there is another snag I think one is in the mid west and I know that a big builder is in LA CA West Coast so be ready to check on your baby and think how your going to get her home for more info just go to your yahoo search type 89Batmobile or try Gotham Glass thank you

im sorry if this question has been asked before, but can anybody tell me if the Keaton batmobile is based on a corvette?
dnmetalhed on 7/5/2005 3:26:46 AM
I hate to start anything but by all indications of the past few batman movies aswell as the 1960's car(1955 Lincoln Futura) the tumbler does not fit into the batmobile genre. Its design iz more of a chaotic nature while the rest of the batmobiles have been of a sleek and stealthy design. So what im saying is that while the tumbler was cool i believe that in no way it should be referred to as a batmobile let alon one of the best.
Kaoz on 7/4/2005 4:56:56 PM

Classic. That's the only word that can describe this car. I never liked the whole jet engine idea, but...meh. Easily the best car of the four, if only because it looks somewhat like a 1930s roadster. Not as flashy as the Kilmer car, or as durable and agile as the Tumbler, but still very good. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Darren Berquist on 7/2/2005 1:34:09 PM
I have seen the Batmobile many times. A guy called Peter Nelson owns a huge collection of film vehicles including all the original Batmobiles (the ones used in the films). My boys got to sit in the Anton Furst Batmobile dressed as Batman & Robin and get their picture taken. Boy was I so jelous !!! (sic)
Mr A on 7/1/2005 6:34:11 AM
DKMobile, go to the nearest Sharper Image. They have a that's about a foot long, very sweet. I've also seen it at Pep Boys, but the only had one and they probably don't keep them stocked.
IxIverson on 6/28/2005 11:23:32 PM
-The batmobile from Batman & Batman Returns is without a doubt the coolest vehicle from any movie ever. Batman Forever & Batman & Robin batmobiles were neon lights on wheels. The Tumbler is cool and all but it doesn't look like the batmobile is supposed to. Tim Burton's movies had it on.

Ageless urban crime fighting machine with enough gadgets to keep James Bond satisfied, How i would love to own one of these, i plan to one day as my friend has a knightrider (KITT) replica i will have to go one better! this is what i would like to have at the heart of mine if money was no object: Lightweight aluminium chassis with twin Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa engines one back one front so in effect independent four wheel drive makes for some serious road cherning fun, add fully ajustable hydrolic suspension for some low rider looks and sports handling now this would be the ultimate batmobile! P.S. Great site.

Hello Everybody, I just started the long and expensive process of making my own 1989 batmobile Replica car. I should have the complete mock-up ready for molding in about 5 months and the first body in about 8 months. I currently have a 1987 Corvette as my base car (what better than a chevy to power the hottest car to hit big screen). I plan to have my car on the road next summer. I am very interested in knowing how many people if any are truely interested in owning their own car?? By interested I mean have the money to make it happen. The reason I ask is because once I have the proto-type complete I will be willing to reproduce the fiberglass body only to interested parties. This means that I will supply you with a complete ready for frame an paint body only!!! The base and details are your project. I will be able to produce bodies from my original mold and ship directly to your door (in the US only) for $19K. So if anybody is seriously interested I would schedule a body just for them. This is a limited time offer only. I will not produce anymore bodies after the end of next year (2006) but will not take any orders during 2006 either. I will only take orders till the end of this year as alot of time and planning needs to be done to make this happen and I don't want to be doing this forever. For all that I have read it seems as the fiberglass body seems to be the hardest part of this build and after doing my own plans I agree!! I will be willing to talk to serious parties only please.

Hey there fellow 89 Batmobile enthusiasts. I am currently building a Batmobile Replica " Hydroplane Style". That's right a catamaran boat which very closely resembles the car. My pontoons are two fuel tanks off a fighter jet and between them sit's a 350ci direct drive chev engine. I have the bonnet and sides completed but the hard top roof and windshields are sort of hard to duplicate. Also I'm afraid the high fins on the back may affect my performance on the water. Do you guy's think I should say the hell with safety issues and make her look as much like the Batmobile as I can or not? I'll post some pic's as soon as I "GET UR DUN"

Hey... Yes, I too am obsessed with this car. I too have made it a life goal to own one. After reading all these posts I noticed that everyone is asking where to get a kit to make one, or where to buy a premade replica or something like that, but I never saw any answers. Now, I know we all say we'll own this, but I seriously plan on owning this car one day. Not any time soon, but if I should have a successful job and be able to afford it later in life, I do plan on buying it, so my question is, can anyone direct me to a site or something that gives all the info one would need to buy a kit/replica/original. Thanks for your time. Great site. Email me simpletruth@comcast.net

My name is Amanda Ruble and I work for a public relations firm in Stockton, California. If you are not located in California, I apologize for the email. I could not find your location on your website. I am currently working on a construction project that centers around the grand opening of a bridge on the Mokolumne and Cosumnes Rivers. The new bridge is ¼ of a mile long and it replaces the old tressle bridge. The significance of this project, aside from the obvious construction, is the presence of 50,000 Mexican Freetail bats. These bats made a habitat out of the underside of the bridge long before construction began. In an effort to preserve the bat population, the construction team built a temporary habitat for the bats while the new bridge was under construction. Every evening 20,000 to 30,000 of the bats fly out from under the bridge. It draws quite a crowd, as you can imagine. Well, the new bridge is almost completed and the bats will have a new home. We are celebrating the completion of the bridge on December 3, 2004. Bat Conservation International will be there as well as local and state government officials. We would love to have a “batmobile” there to celebrate the bridge completion and commemorate the preservation of the bats. If you are available, or know of any other resources we can contact, I would appreciate any help you can offer. You can reach me at (209) 464-8707. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
