Doo Hee....thanks

Shagg....I found a drawing here (i think good 'ol Rusty drew) that explained the steering...a collection of shafts and universals, but I'm not even thinking about that yet. golf kart rear axle might be good - however this vehicle is larger than I expected - which I am totally fine with so I may adjust my ideas for axle as well as the engine that will be used. I too am anxious to start welding.

Jack...thanks! I can honestly say if it wasn't for this site, I def. would not have gotten started so quickly and been sooo motivated. I'm picking up a 220 stick/arc welder today and will be practicing this weekend. I will continue my wood frame also and hope to be close to fully done with the chassis by Monday.

thanx guys...!!!!

WOW! I'm surprised nobody else has thought about building a Tumbler out of wood to get the panels worked out...

thanks rusty...it'll be the same size as this wood model. I thought it was going to be half scale but, um...it's not. it looks like it'll be about 3-5 feet smaller in length as the original is a 16foot monster. EGADS!

Coming along.  using the brick as a seat i sat in it.  although I originally wanted it a bit smaller, i sit comfortably in it. after all when your jumping from building to building, you want to be comfortable.  I guess the axle is next.

Done for the weekend. Much bigger than anticipated. took a deep breath. will scale steel slightly smaller, but I must admit, I like the size.

Wheels are not to scale.

Dude it looks great.  You truly are the miter master.  You'll need a little bigger tire.

I can't wait to see you start working on the body panels!!!

Yes..."wheels are not to scale". will eventually purchase the ones that will be mounted. just using those for the visual. I gotta admit, I haven't even thought about the body yet. this frame is modeled after G&G's frame (the intercepter builder guys) and the original vehicle frame. It was recommended that I use a Buick V6 for the power. I like that idea especially because the engine I wanted to use originally (a large ATV motor) would be too small and the big block chevy would be too big. engine mounting and the rear frame has taken up alot of my thinking time. I really want to get to welding. I'll probably start welding this week cause the dude from craigslist with the 220 lincoln stick/arc welder didn't come through Friday. will begin body panels sometime this week. Funny note: i've been telling the kids that I'm building an "off road, big go-kart". yesterday right before I took the pics with the wheels, I caught the 16 year old just standing there looking at it hard with a curious look on his face. he looked at me and said "this looks like the batmobile". I smiled and confessed. I swore him to secrecy!

So thanks to Jack and the rest of you guys, I'm a build addict and I love it.

And now that the kid said that it looks like the Tumbler you are hooked for life.  It's those things that really keep you motivated.  I would suggest that you mock up the panels before you get to the metal that way you can change the design if needed.  Just an idea.

I was just going to say the same thing. It really is starting to look like the car now. Looks like you're moving fast and have a well laid out plan. Great work!
