Mold lines

Just decided to start a new thread. Yes in deed every kit has parting lines. However most kits have really clean and crisp lines. The current 89 kits do not. It's great that your builder went to the extra trouble for you. I hope he will do that for all of his future buyers. Especially the ones gained from CLTC. This is what our mold lines look like. Heck where are the Bobs when you need them. Hey Kevin don't you have some shots of your 66 right out of the molds?

RE: Mold lines

It is really exciting to finally be discussing OPENLY the '89 kits that are or will be available! Like Jack keeps saying - this website is gonna make it easier for ALL of us to get kits, and HOPEFULLY it will also lead to the kits getting BETTER with time and experience. This is NOTHING like the '66 arena so many years ago. We all have the internet, digital cameras and LOTS of word of mouth to discuss these kits and cars, so it forces the bar to be raised on all kit manufacturers. We are not so starving for info and leads that we will accept anything and everything that comes along. A prudent buyer is one who is informed and critical. I love it!

Yes, I did have hair once, but no, that's not me.

Here is what the backside could look like with a little work. This is coated with a truck bed liner material. I think I remember Rusty or someone asking about that recently...

In case anyone's interested, here is a link to the article that these photos came from: http://rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/55361/#

RE: Mold lines

That's absolutely correct Tim!
It all comes down to time, effort and $$, something I doubt you'll see in any
89 molds.

That top 89 pic looks like white clay in the mold lines?...if so that's a bitch to get out....but not impossible.....hire a kid to do it.

RE: Mold lines

You are spot on DonC it probably is clay or wax or something. The lower one had the same problem. I did hire a kid to clean mine (ME). Dang kid was useless so I fired him and no one is working on it.

(Spot on) Thanks a lot Dee and Mr. A........

According to Kory last year when these pics debuted, they are CLEARLY photoshopped and you can CLEARLY see the fiberglass coming apart at the seams... What a pile of crap Kevin! How could you let that leave your shop?

RE: Mold lines

Well I never seen that post but they have been photoshopped now. Yep by me. I added the watermark that Tim made with photo shop, but sadly Tim had to call me to walk me through it. Kevin the first watermark Tim made was rainbow but I told him to hold that design for Nitro.

This is a car fresh out of the molds with nothing done to the car except for washing off the mold release. If you don’t receive a body as nice send it back and ask for a full refund!!

I knew you guys would turn this in to a pissing contest. All I was trying to say is..."Why can't the 89 kit be as nice as any other professionally made kit out there?". But I should have know that we can't stay on track in any of our threads. Thanks for viewing.

RE: Mold lines

Rusty - Its true that there is still work to be done on that body before it is painted. Nobody is saying that it is "paint ready" right out of the molds. Heck! Maybe there are even HOURS of work left to do to prepare it for paint! BUT - that is alot different from the DAYS or WEEKS of work required of almost ALL '89 kits (yours including). If my right click button still worked on my laptop, I would copy one of the pics of the '66 and one of the pics of the '89 kit and I would put them side by side for illustration purposes... But I do not think that is necessary. You all know what I'm talking about!

RE: Mold lines

well i thought this post were talking about mold and bodys and people were show what a good one is and what the bad is and all i said is that it is nice but your still going to have to do work and the biggest thing about paint on a 66 and 89 is the color you could paint that 66 in that picture flat black right now and it would look as strait as a new vet.. but someone can blow the pictures of my body up and say look at this and that. hey i know its going to need work. but i cant say that one going to need work and it was just me that said it (not you guys) you guys is when more than one person talk's about someone body...

RE: Mold lines

Rusty no no no that's not what I meant at all. I'm not picking at your body not at all. That's why I used mine as the other example. This thread I was hoping to just address how clean a mold line can be (on any kit) and how bad they are on the 89 kits. That's all. I'm not at all trying to slam your kit or Mark and I'm not saying Kevin is the best. I just used his shots to show the difference in mold lines. The same with the coupe that Tim posted. It was just a simple observation and a question as to why the guys selling the 89 kit don't make the body perfect first before pulling molds. Really that's all. In case any of you guys missed this before Rusty's body is much nicer than the one I started with.

Actually it was Kevin that started this fight.... Way to go Nodeman!!
