RE: Headlights Revisited Yup this lights do look different. Now to answer about the three slots. They are supoosed to be cooling vents for the front brakes. Bascially they are the small verision of those mean intakes in the back of the car. I don't have a batmobile, but I have a remote R2-D2 www.c4-designs.com/ciii

RE: Headlights Revisited Anyone have a shot of these up close? Was there the grid inside the slots? They aren't just open slots, are they? Those headlights do look different...

RE: Headlights Revisited they are faux. no openings, no screen, no nuttin. that was the design intention, but since the batmobile in indeed a prop i guess the builders didn't worry about making it functional. (or to appear functional) I don't have a batmobile, but I have a remote R2-D2 www.c4-designs.com/ciii

RE: Headlights Revisited yeah they look to be slitted but not removed. either way they are not functional. for them to be functional they would need a hose connecting the caliber to the vents. I don't have a batmobile, but I have a remote R2-D2 www.c4-designs.com/ciii

RE: Headlights Revisited I think there was a pic somewhere of the vents popped out and there was just a sort of channel underneath. I can;t remember where I saw that though. RE: Headlights Revisited The thing to remember is that the car in the movies was a just a prop. If you are going to build the "real" thing then you need to build what was implied in the movie. In other words you should be building a replica of what Batman drove, not what Michael Keaton, the actor drove (if he actually ever even drove it.) Don't copy the prop. |

RE: Headlights Revisited Just my opinion.. I want an 89 that LOOKS like an 89, but is a roadworthy car in the UK (ie daily driver if need be). I respect the people out there who want a replica 'hero car' and the amount of time and dedication these people put in to build there dream, but I just want an 89 lookalike that I can drive where ever I please. Totally legal, no problem. Is that too much to ask? I've said before, I'm not a 'car' person but "stood next to an 89 and that was it". The idea that one day I might drive around in an 89 has consumed me (much like the rest of you) and now I am pursuing that dream. One day.... NOT a 1:1 copy necessarily but something 'unique' based on Antons (and his team) design. Problem for me is I also want to drive my BABY on the road and stay away from WB. That means a custom job and some carefull modifications (at least). Plus a lot of cash and LOTS of knowledge about what your doing. I'm still learning about what I want to do and how it can be achieved, but I am learning from you guys all the time. Thanks. Mr A

RE: Headlights Revisited Hey Mr.A , I just read your reply on the headlight page, I agree with your desire to have a daily driver, but to be honest..with the money and time that the top 3 or 4 true Bat-Nuts on here are puting into their cars,,,,the potential for just paint damage alone would make a mere mortal run for cover before driving their baby on the streets! At least more than rarely I would think. 
I too hope to have mine street legal, and as hassle free as possible,,so I am sacrafising the exactness, for practicality, etc. 
"Which is a nice way to say that I cant afford the real shell, so I'm doing what I can... with what I have" I understand that mine will be a poor cousin in many respects, but I sure get alot of enjoyment out of it anyway! And besides, exact or not.... we are among the few who are willing to DO, and NOT just give good lip service about what we would do if we were building it.

RE: Headlights Revisited Thanks Rusty, I'm in wiring hell rite now lol, but to be honest, it's going well so far. I am currently rewiring the entire dash area, because there are very few parts from my Riveria which are reusable in the new cockpit. Mine has a single front seat, and a full rear area for 2 or 3 adults. I extended my frame 33 1/4 ", and am keeping the engin area/drive train stock for practical reasons. Given the abundance of wiring involved with the switches, lights, guages, system controls etc,,, I have used about 300 feet of additional wiring so far. Considering that I do ALOT of wiring for a living, I pity the poor shmoo, " No mater how wealthy they are", who has to pay for having a functional dash built!!!! There's a 3 day car show starting tomorrow here in the Tampa area, so this weekend I hope to snarf up some more needed goodies. Especially a cooler speedometer!

RE: Headlights Revisited Bill, You are an inspiration to me. Like you, mine wont be an 'authentic copy' but a sort of 'inspired by' 89. making it road legal in the UK is the biggest challenge. Good luck with the wiring....I aint even close to those sorts of problems yet.

RE: Headlights Revisited Bill I like your build and your attitude but there are a lot of folks who might not have funds or your talent as of yet to start their build. I waited for mine until i had my shop built then things started coming together. Lip service or not, there is a lot of talented people on this board and more are coming in all the time. I wish I was one of them , but i do what i can and hope for the best.
