Frames..What works best on a budget?
Hey Guyz,,I used 1984-86 Caprice frames on my cars But my cars Are not perfect like I want,So what is the best to use and and What Measurements should I look Out for...?

I don't think it really matters that much what you start with, it's just a matter of how much modification it will need. The "standard" seems to be a '73- '74 caprice/impala, but Rusty is using a an ex-Rusty Wallace NASCAR chassis, and some say a Corvette C6 is perfect.

That's right, the one in Talahassee turned out to be a Jay car and that is what had the '73 or '74 frame... (I keep forgetting that) I didn't realize that we knew the original was a '65-'69 though.

Thanks Guys,I Wonder why they used such an old frame on the movie cars...And I seen The One With the Nascar Frame Looking good!"is that a real Countach in his Garage? Some people have all the luck..."LOL.. I just wanted to know about the frames it has allways puzzled me kool to ask someone rather than do what I did and go on the E-net and find these "ungodly" out of focused pics and take an Educated guess....LOL

Several sources stated it was a 1969 impala (most I remember were around the time of release popular mechanics etc., and the Impalas from 65-69
frame wise were identical.
Something the 66 site webmaster did (Eric) was to have an area that posted articles about the car. (And point out inaccuracies for the new reader) Webmaster? We have posted a few over time, but they are burried in threads. Time to add article sections to each of the batmobiles and we can all scan and submit! What do you guys think?

Actually I think that's a great idea.
I thought a fact sheet would also be a good idea. Wheelbase, overall lenth, designer, sculptor, etc. whatever else we can think of. I've been meaning to do that for a while just to keep track of everything.

Rusty - from what I was told quite some time ago the guy who built that car regrets putting it on a Corvette. But that is second hand info - I have not spoken to ES myself. Kevin, Paul? Care to elaborate on this one?

He just regrets "selling" it to the guy in San Francisco. He and I are going to make another one when he gets some space available for us to turn some molds into cars. A certain guy in Hawaii wants one, so it will be fun to road trip out there with several hundred gallons of glass in the trailer (Silicon Valley laws dictate how much resin you can keep in a residential home, but not in a trailer parked out front.) and punch out a few more bodies.
Sharpshooter built the above car on an 84 Vette,
He and a friend literally took an ax to the car and had it stripped down and stretched the same day.
The above pic and the pics on ebay were taken that same first weekend and that Monday, he sent me pics of the car on the road with flashlights duct taped on for headlights so he could drive it. He got pulled over because one of the tail light flashlights fell off.
But that's the fastest build I'm aware of.
I think he's gonna take a bit more time with the second one though.
Oh... and for the record... "What frame works best on a budget?"
Plywood!!!
I've talked to Bob C about this and my entire 95 project was less than the cost of his rear wing.
But his car wasn't built to be a building sign 30 feet in the air.
Following that...
"Do what the pros do... Use a Caprice for 400 bucks from the Police/Taxi/Transit auctions."
They used old junkers because that's what was available cheap. All of those cars had large wheelbases, wide tracks and strong framerails.

Thanks for the correction, Paul! When I get around to doing a '66, I am SERIOUSLY considering using a Vette donor... I heard an argument about how it is better as far as width goes - I don't know all the details though.

The '66. I am still not convinced it would be a good idea for an '89. But for the '66, I heard (note - I have no idea for sure) that it is slightly narrower and makes the body fit better.
When I build my '89 eventually, I will probably use a Caprice.

I get the impression that just about anything you use is going to have to be lengthened/widened, etc... a pretty fair amount, so I doubt it's all that important. I've heard a Lincoln recommended fairly often for an 89 build at least(I think)

I've never heard of a vette being used for a 66. Might be cool. The 71 - 77 Lincoln Town car doesn't need to be stretched for the 66.
This one had a flawless black leather interior,
