Barris comments unwarranted.
Some comments are unwarranted. Are I asked was who are willing to post some pictures sinced I have not yet learn how to post it myself (why even mocked my statement). What's the old saying go 'MAKE SURE YOUR BRAIN IS IN GEAR BEFORE YOU SPEAK'
What the hell!!. Whose to say Barris is taking credit for the other builderS. No matter how you look at it, Barris will always be associated with the Batmobile (he is the original creator). Why mock the man; he's only taking picture with the other batmobiles. You guys have to look beyond what it seems; Why did the others builders allowed Barris to pose with the Batmobiles if Barris is taking credit for there work and they are very objective about it??? Sure he charges a mere $5 to autographed the pictures (no big deal--I'm sure he spoke with the other builders/designer or WB before doing so).

Hey, we appreciate the photo and all but chill out "stocklottery". No one said anything "unwarranted". Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and are more than welcome to post it. Just because you start a thread does not mean you can dictate the content of the replies. If you are that sensetive maybe you should try another forum before your feelings get hurt.

That's funny lifetimetv
Of course everybody is entitled to their own opinions--this is America not China. No hard feelings here. All I'm saying only because Barris autographed and take pictures with the other batmobiles; others people thinks he's making claims or take credit for the other designers ideas (now, that's funny).

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Why in the world would he autograph the '89 Batmobile? That makes no sense. Why would he pose with all three batmobiles wearing a Barris Kustoms hat? I don't have a problem with George but that does strike me as a little odd.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
For Barris to make claims on th General is definite wrong, but here's nothing wrong with him autographing any batmobile in my opinion. I don't have a problem with that. There's no different if he build the 89' for a living or any other ordinary joe.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Barris has taken credit for the Black Beauty all the Batmobiles and numerous movie vehicles he had nothing to do with. He came to Fla. a few years ago and claimed that a Bob Butts car he sold to a museum in Fla. He stood before a large crowd and told how it was a screen used car to hype up the bidding Mr. Moore paid over 175 thousand dollars for the car only to find out it was a fake. It took over a year to get his money back from Kruze Auction. Who knowingly sold a fake car, I and several others told Kruze it was a fake. The 66 Batmobile was based on a 76 frame.
There was a plack at the Tallahassee Museum that states that the 89 was built by Barris and the forever car and Batcycle that he sold to the Museum. Barris has sold numerous replicas cars and had sold them as originals.
I have even heard him on Maguire's Car Crazy stating that all three Batmobiles were his creations.
I have in my possession several letters from WB, telling Barris to cease and desist from selling Batmobiles; several members of this board have read these letters.

I really admire George, but he does get a bit carried away...maybe it's old age?...I have a video segment from Funk Master Flex, where he claimed he had the original 'Christine' 58 Plymouth. -Matt

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Let me iterate some more on "There's no different if he build the 89' for a living or any other ordinary joe."
I don't know the true history background with Baris or what claims he made in the past. As far as I'm concerned, if Baris wants to build the 89' or any other ordinary Joe want to build one for a living as long as it's dictate as a replica, that's no problem (in this cased, it's already too late for Baris). From what I've read so far, factual or not--I haven't read the cease or desist letter yet--Kevin, please repost if you don't mind. It seems what Baris did previously was out of his league.

Unless I'm mistaken, Barris has never built or had anything to do with the '89, the '95 or the '97.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
I saw Barris in Cincinnati with what appeared to be the RTTBC car.
The line was short early on Saturday so I poney'd up my $5.00 for a photo and my chance to get a closeup view of the el-cheapo '66 he had in attendance.
After I got my photo, I presented pics of my '66 and asked if I could pay him to sign mine? He replied in the negative, and signed all 3 of my photos.
As I was about to walk away, he waived me back, gave me 1 of his $30.00 Barris Kustoms metallic signs and wrote: To Chris. George Barris, 2006.
He asked me if he could have 1 of my photos which I gave, then he asked for my name, address & phone number-------------which stunned the hell out of me, LOL. All I could think of at the time was Cease & Desist!
I assured him I'm an old car guy that appreciated his vision of the '66, but I have no intention of trying to move in on his gig. He seemed fine with all of that, so I gave him my real name, address & Phone #. After all, if he REALLY wanted to find me I'm all over the net about my build and I'm also in the white pages!
Eric told me that Barris' daughter admitted her Dad's habit of documenting cars, names etc. was just a "quirk" of his and seemed embarrassed about it.
I guess if he wasn't happy that I had a replica, even by the guy he hates (MT), why would he sign my pics? I feel pretty good about it.
I was in attendance at the Kruse Auction for the Klassix Musuem and he defintely misrepresented that replica. I was there with about $80k in hand to buy, but I wasn't even a player when the first bid was over that level.
I wanted that replica pretty badly at the time so I thought a vein was gonna burst when he misrep'd the car! LOL
You know the rest of the story about my (crappy) build.
Pontiac builds excitement. Woodside tears 'em apart.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Your build actually looks better than the original #2 I saw today. You will see what I mean when I developed and upload the pic. I actually got close and take several cockpit photos. My impression on Baris; I thought he was a pretty nice guy.
I told Baris I was planning/in process of building the 89'; he look surprised. He signed my 89' hotwheel and the photo I uploaded earlier; that's pretty much it. Maybe I can EBAY my signed Baris 89' to see what it will fetched

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Oh boy. Give me a chance to reply.
My comments are warranted. If anyone wants to know the REAL Barris, why not talk to Dean Jefferies...how about Gene Winfield? Look I know Barris did a lot of cars but how about stopping when the cars are no longer yours. Did anyone ever see the Winfield Blade Runner Spinner that's over in Japan? Why does a Winfield built and Syd Mead designed car have Barris stickers all over it? I never said he was a bad guy...but his ego needs to take a break. I can get into a long Barris/ Hot Wheels story if anyone has time. Lets just say he feeds off collectors but they're not really his best friends. What's wrong with a little bit of truth nowadays? Yeah, it hurts sometimes.
'MAKE SURE YOUR BRAIN IS IN GEAR BEFORE YOU SPEAK' Gimme a break. Spend some time in LA talking to his former employees, business associates, etc then get back to me.
BTW, let me get my pen out and sign a full-size 66 for someone...
Dave

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
stocklottery, since you are still pretty new around here you probably really don't know how personal this issue is to at least one of us. Dave is the guy who designed that 1/18th 1989 Batmobile that you had signed. Yes that is correct he is the one that did several years of research and so much more to bring it to life. Dave is a huge 89 fan and that's why it came out so nice. So maybe you can see why some got a little defensive. The one you should get to sign it would be Dave and I'm sure he would for you. Dave's a great guy and I owe him so much.
Now about Mr. Barris. I'm actually a fan because he has designed and helped to build some awesome cars to include the 66 Batmobile. I'll be going to the Georgia World of Wheels so I too can get his autograph and to see all the awesome cars. Of course my wife just wants to hit to outlet stores. I too have heard that Mr. Barris will sign anything and that he has been know to take credit for others work. He's a businessman and hey he's making money. So anyway take him or leave him, he still has his place in Batmobile history just like Anton, Barbara, Nathan, and Dave.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Look guys I did not meant to start some kind of Barris claims subject and 'what he did do or did not do' but it was pretty interesting never the less. I simply post to have someone who is willing to upload my pictures from the auto show (simple as that).
If you read it again...."Some comments are unwarranted. Are I asked was who are willing to post some pictures sinced I have not yet learn how to post it myself (why even mocked my statement)". What's the old saying go 'MAKE SURE YOUR BRAIN IS IN GEAR BEFORE YOU SPEAK'.
After seeing the cease and desist letter and several forum members comments; I do have to agreed Barris have and EGO bigger than his size. I don't really care what issues Barris have with some other builders, business associates, etc; it's not my forte (my goal is only to build an 89').
So, here's to the 89'.
Dave, what's the issue with Barris and HOTWHEELS anyways?

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.
Thanks Jack,
I learn the 'technique on how to post pictures' already. I'm not that new to the forum. Found the site about a year ago and starting to post earlier this year so I can see what's behind the 50 to 100 posts 'door'.
I now know a lot of people are very defensive about the 89' and did not meant to offend anyone in anyway. On the lights of things, perhaps it's premature to have my hotwheel signed by Barris (now I have to get another one).
