Shaggy (7/31/2008)
its mounted in reverse, right behind the drivers compartment, the transmission basically sits right beside you. Here is another persons build that is quite close to what the original drivetrain set up was, in my opinion. video: http://ps-car.com/renew/garage/video/bmc070130_r2000_dl.wmv dont know if that link will work or not.
Is that part of the steering right in front of the rear of the transmission or is that a transfer case? BTW that is a cool video of what they have built so far.

| its a V-drive transfer case. commonly used in boats with V-8's. That ps-car build log explains quite a bit if you want to read through that. The computer translation is a bit rough at some points though

| yeah, Chilebean named it correctly, i reffer to them as transfer cases (im weird i know) but i think the technical name is a V-drive. That is what sends the power coming off the transmission back to the rear wheels. I always told myself if i ever built myself a full scale tumbler, i would just use an old chevy transfer case in place of the V-drive. That way i can have 3 sets of low gears, and 3 sets of high gears, not only that, but i could knock the case into 2wd and use the rear drive shaft output to power a 20,000 pound winch if i wanted. Never know when that could come in handy.

Shaggy, thats a great idea to use a truck transfer case. A winch would fit great in the nose section if you were not building an identical replica. Think of it as a Tumbler LT (you know, one with alllllllll the options)

| Hey xtreme, yeah as far as the inner parts of the Tumbler, custom is awesome. But for me, the outside has to be as identical as the original as possible. If i designed it differently, i'd stare at it every day and compare it to the original, and think "how much better" the original looked. lol. Part of my OC. Didnt mean to hyjack the thread.
