| Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this matter. I'm presently engaged in writing a piece (intended for publication) on the defining attributes of Batman as a character, i.e. what makes him him? While there are a host of contributing factors that can be readily identified (e.g. the murder of his parents, his experience of falling into the bat cave as a child, etc.), I'd like to hear views on whether people consider the Batmobile as constituting such a contributory element. And, if so, to what extent? Is the Batmobile essential for Batman to be who he is? The question can be addressed in various ways. For example, one might consider it as if from Batman's perspective (and, if so, surely he can get by without his car - but, if so, for how long?) Or, alternatively, the question may be addressed from the standpoint of the film/comic/cartoon audience - is the Batmobile a crucial part of the generic whole that goes to make up the Batman character? For me, when I think of Batman the image of the Batmobile (usually the '89 model) usually comes to mind also. Any views would be appreciated.

| For one I think it really coincides with American's love with automobiles when batman in the comics of the 40's came out with the first Batmobile I think it just clicked with people it was just a given that a man without any super powers needed something extra to have in his arsenal of weapons to have an edge over the evil do'ers of the world. A quote from Sam Ham, (The Batmobile everybody wants one.) I think the Batmobile in its many forms(http://superherouniverse.com/wiki/Batmobile#The_classic_Batmobile_-_1941) plays the side kick better than Robin. I think Cris Nolan did a great job of staying true to this, with his begins movie, By far my favorite part of the whole movie was his tumbler/ batmobile /war machine.Same way with the Darknight all though Nolan did give us a much better storyline this time. So I think Batman would not be the man we all know and Love with out the Batmobile.................. My Favorite batmobile is the 89 as well. I'm not just A lurker, I am also A owner operator .
